THE YELLOW SUBMARINE
A film by Britte van Meurs
2020 | 22 mins | Digital Video | Color | 25fps
From four square meters and a large window to look at the outside world, A Yellow Submarine follows Sasha, a Ukrainian truck driver who drives between Poland and the Netherlands. The truck roars, squeaks, bawls, and causes a trembling that hardly ever ceases. The film is the result of extensive ethnographic fieldwork among Ukrainian, Polish and Dutch long distance truck drivers, and tries to give an impression of what daily life in a truck feels and sounds like. Together with a written thesis, the film formed part of the graduation requirements for the Master of Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin.
